When IGTV was introduced by former Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom on the 20th of June 2018, not many people took interest but the use of IGTV has gradually increased over the years. It’s been two years now and that app is basically becoming a huge competitor to YouTube. Earlier in the year it was announced that IGTV was getting monetized and now they have rolled out ads on the platform in the USA and it’s only a matter of time till it is rolled out here.
If you hadn’t taken up interest in creating longer form video content, you might want to reconsider now because before you know it you will be able to make money on any IGTV that is 2 minutes long.
USE THE IGTV APP TO UPLOAD
Instagram recently removed the IGTV button from the Instagram app with the hope that out of the estimated +/- 7billion Instagram users more people would download and use the standalone IGTV app. There is no doubt that they will definitely prioritize content published directly from within the app so if you want more views, you need to download and use the IGTV app. I have experimented with this and I have seen the results myself.
KEEP YOUR VIDEOS SHORT
Even though the concept of IGTV is to get people to watch more video in the vertical orientation, the general population attention span is very low so unlike YouTube, IGTV videos still need to be short and concise in order for your audience to actually watch the whole video. You will only be able to monetize videos longer than 2 minutes so you will still need to keep them short but longer than 2 minutes.
FILM IN PORTRAIT
IGTV was designed to display video in portrait form since almost everyone spends most of their time on their phones so it would be ideal for you to film your content in the same format instead of using a landscape filmed video. It’s quite annoying to have two blank bars on the video and I think you can agree.
GOOD QUALITY USEFUL CONTENT
It goes without saying that anyone appreciates good quality content. You may not need to invest in expensive equipment because smart phones can produce amazing content too. You just need to make sure you have good lighting. People are on the internet searching for information so the more informative your videos are, the better chance you have of people coming back for more.
Thank you for this enlightening information. I am not really a youtube fan when it comes to videos because of them being lenghty and people do not usually get straight to the point. Besides, times do change and IGTV seems to be taking over.
IGTV definitely is taking over. YouTube is such a job hey lol. Creating content for that platform isn’t child’s play and yep what you said lol, a lot of people drag their conversation because they are trying to make money off of the pltatform
