This year I am attending SAFW in a different capacity and in addition to my usual SAFW coverage I will be able to cover backstage moments! So you know where to be during Fashion Week (3Apr – 7Apr 2019)- on my social media feed!
If you are a day one then you know how much of a big deal this is otherwise you can just read this and you will understand.
Since I started attending fashion week in 2014 back when I was in Zimbabwe, I have always talked about how my blog and now YouTube Channel will be your go-to for all things Fashion Week around the world. We are getting there slowly but surely.
Fashion Week tends to be very busy and time-consuming. You need to network, interview designers, live in the moment and still manage to create content for your social networks. If you are someone who thrives on working under pressure you will definitely cope but for those who prefer to be more prepared (you will never really be prepared though) here are some of the things you will need to make sure your Fashion Week experience is as smooth as possible.
Your audience knows you are at Fashion Week. As much as they would love for you to have a good time, they also live vicariously through you. They rely on you to be their eyes so you need to make sure your phone is on you at all times in order to continue churning out content for your audience to indulge.
Camera and or Photographer
If you are your own photographer this is going to be difficult but you might just have to compromise on the high-quality content and use your phone at all times. It’s more convenient to use your camera as you arrive and vlog before you have to start engaging with the fashion Industry’s greats.
Imagine on a normal day your battery goes flat, what more when you are constantly posting and engaging on different social networks? If possible have two power banks.
Unless you are a big-time blogger with a chauffeur and an apartment booked in close proximity to the venue, you are going to be touching up in the backseat of a car so it is imperative that you have a fully functional makeup bag with all necessities as well as a hairbrush – if you don’t manage to fix up everything else, at least your hair is gonna be fleeking!
We may be in a digital age but business cards are still standing. Have a few in your handbag and do not just hand them out. Strive to make a genuine connection with people in the industry and once you have established a collection offer a business card for further engagements outside of Fashion Week.
Samples of your Products
If you own your own brand, it is always a good idea to have some samples of your products with you at all times. You never know who you will bump into and handing out freebies is always worth it. People will remember you for giving them something.
There is always a mishap. You will find that you need tape, a safety pin or as scissors just before you jump out of the car. It’s always good to be prepared.
now that you are ready for Fashion Week, I hope you have the best time of your life.
Stay Fab and Stylish.
