Cleansing 101

Cleansing is one of the most important parts of anyone’s daily skincare routine. Neglecting it can promote breakouts and premature ageing from all the dirt and impurities which accumulate on the skin during the course of the day.

The dirt on our skin acts as a barrier against all the products we use in our skin care so using a cleanser that removes all the makeup and gunk makes it possible for the hydrating properties in your toner and moisturizer to seep into your skin.

Today’s cleansers come in a variety of textures, milks, waters, foams, creams and balms so they can adapt to all manner of skin types and they don’t have to cost a fortune. I have tried a few over the past few years and I am sharing the ones I have been using in my three step cleansing routine.

Clinique Take The Day Off™ Cleansing Balm (R360)

Okay, this one isn’t the most affordable but it is definitely worth the money. It’s definitely one of the most effective cleansing balms I have tried so far. It transforms from a solid balm into a silky oil upon application and it removes tenacious eye and face makeup with ease.

Despite it being a silky oil, this 112 ml balm breaks down makeup products and dislodges them without being oily and once washed or wiped off it leaves the skin moisturized.

Sorbet Hydro Skin 3-in-1 Foam Cleanser (R89)

Sorbet Hydro Skin 3-in-1 Foam Cleanser comes in a 210ml pump bottle and a very attractive price. It cleanses skin and effectively removes make-up. This cleanser is enriched with hyaluronic acid which promotes healthier, more supple skin, Omega 3 & 6 which are essential to the barrier function of skin cells and vitamins A & E to protect you from free radicals and are also enriched with antiaging benefits. It leaves skin feeling refreshed, super soft and nourished.

Garnier Miscellar Water (R79.95)

This one removes makeup with ease and minimum effort. Micellar water is basically “soft water” with tiny balls of cleansing oils embedded inside.

When these oils make contact with your skin, they draw out dirt and makeup off your face without stripping off the natural essential oils that the skin produces. Miscellar water also hydrates your skin and doesn’t necessarily have to be rinsed off. Of the three cleanser I use in my 3 step cleansing routine this is the one I use last.

I have shared a video of how I use these cleansers here.
